Snapchat has officially entered the native AI image generation space with the launch of a new text-to-image Lens. This feature, currently in a limited beta test, allows a small segment of its community to create and share AI-generated visuals directly within the app.
The new tool, accessible through the Lens Carousel, enables users to type a descriptive text prompt. Snapchat's proprietary AI model then generates a unique, four-image grid from which the user can choose. The selected image can be saved to their camera roll, sent to friends, or posted to their Story.
A key differentiator for Snapchat is its focus on safety and appropriateness. The system is designed with built-in safeguards to block inappropriate prompts and prevent the generation of images that violate the platform's community guidelines. This move positions Snapchat not just as a fun feature, but as a safe, creative tool for its core, younger audience.
This development places Snapchat in direct competition with other social platforms integrating AI image creation and signals a significant step in making generative AI a mainstream, everyday feature for consumers.
